Week 6 of college football action left fans breathless with the sheer number of upsets recorded against ranked sides. The 2024 college football season opened with a Week 0 upset when the then top ten Florida State Seminoles were toppled by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Ireland and the upsets have continued to pop up every week.

So, which were the five biggest upsets in week six action?

#5. Texas A&M vs. Missouri

The No. 9 Missouri Tigers enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season before traveling to College Station to face off against coach Mike Elko's No. 25 Texas A&M Aggies where they were blown out 41-10.

The game was a blowout by halftime with the Aggies leading 24-0. Texas A&M cornerback Will Lee showed the confidence that his team had in the clash by apparently sending a blanket with a personalized message to Tigers wide receiver Theo Wease warning him that he would get no space to run into.

#4. Minnesota vs. USC

The Minnesota Golden Gophers almost recorded an upset of the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines last weekend pushing the reigning champions close in a 27-24 week 5 loss.

In Week 6 action, the Golden Gophers delivered a decisive blow in a 24-17 win against coach Lincoln Riley's No. 11 USC to drop the Trojans to 3-2.

#3. Washington vs. Michigan

The defending national champions, coach Sherrone Moore's Michigan Wolverines were predicted to struggle this season after losing 17 starters and coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL and the season is unfolding as predicted.

After a 31-12 home loss to the Texas Longhorns in Week 2, the Wolverines have escaped disaster with three narrow wins and have struggled with their offensive play with quarterbacks Alex Orji and Davis Warren struggling.

The Huskies under new coach Jedd Fisch improved to 4-2 after beating the No. 10 Wolverines in Week 6 in what is nevertheless an upset as it complicates Moore's chances of making the expanded college football playoffs.

#2. Arkansas vs. Tennessee

Coach Sam Pittman was one of the coaches on the hot seat coming into the season and during Week 6 action, he pulled off a stunning upset as the Arkansas Razorbacks beat the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers 19-14.

Coach Josh Heupel's Volunteers have been tabbed as a potential national championship contender and yet, the game against the Razorbacks was fraught with danger as the Vols had lost in their past three visits to Fayetteville.

#1. Alabama vs. Vanderbilt is week six's biggest college football upset

Last week, coach Kalen DeBoer's Alabama Crimson Tide were the toast of college football with their stunning 41-34 win over coach Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs. In week six action, they were the laughing stock, losing 40-35 on the road to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

It was the first time the Commodores had ever beaten a top-five ranked team in their history (1-60) and it was only the fourth time that the Crimson Tide had lost to an unranked team while ranked No. 1.

The AP Top 25 poll will likely see a lot of movement this week after a frankly unprecedented topsy-turvy weekend in college football once again.
