There have been many changes regarding the world of college football as the landscape of collegiate sports has drastically been impacted. With the emergence of schools being able to pay its players, there has been a feeling of the 'wild west' for some fans, as there is no leadership position in charge of dictating how things are going to be regulated.
One popular suggestion has been the creation of a commissioner, similar to what the National Football League has with Roger Goodell, to be the law of the land in college football over the NCAA. While there have not been many names that have been floated around, one has been suggested.
While speaking to the assembled media ahead of the Fiesta Bowl, Penn State Nittany Lions coach James Franklin discussed how he believes former Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban would make an excellent commissioner of college football.
"I think one of the most important things we can do is, let's get a commissioner of college football that is waking up every single morning and going to bed every single night making decisions that's in the best interest of college football," Franklin said. "I think Nick Saban would be the obvious choice if we made that decision. Now, Nick will probably call me tonight and say, 'Don't do this,' but I think he's the obvious choice, right?"
Saban is currently estimated to have a net worth of $80 million. It is not known if Saban would even want to hold a position such as the commissioner of college football. If that position were to be created, it would be intriguing to see how things would progress in terms of the jurisdiction of the position and what exactly the job would entail.
What jobs does Nick Saban currently possess?
Ever since retiring from the Alabama Crimson Tide at the conclusion of last season, he has been able to stay in the public spotlight.
He has become more media savvy as he agreed to a contract with ESPN. He is one of the hosts of "College GameDay" and is a weekly guest on "The Pat McAfee Show."
