LSU's star linebacker Harold Perkins is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury during Saturday’s 34-17 win over UCLA, according to ESPN. Perkins injured his right knee while making a fourth-quarter tackle, a source confirmed after 247Sports' Matt Zenitz first reported the news Sunday night.
Though Perkins hadn’t matched his past production—where he racked up 13 sacks in two seasons—this loss is still a huge blow for LSU. In four games this year, he recorded 17 tackles, with two for a loss.
Fans were heartbroken by the news:
“Absolutely devastating man. Get well soon HP7,” one wrote.
“Horrible news. I hope his recovery goes well,” another fan tweeted.
“What a blow to LSU,” one wrote. “Hope he make a full recovery by Draft.”
“That’s a tough loss,” another wrote.
Meanwhile, some fans tweeted:
“He wasn't even that good anyways,” a fan wrote.
“Idk how but this is the NCAAs fault,” another tweeted.
Coach Brian Kelly mentioned that Perkins will undergo further tests but did not offer any specifics about his recovery.
Perkins was projected by ESPN's Mel Kiper as one of the top linebacker prospects and appeared frequently in mock drafts as a potential first-round pick.
