Air Force vs Army: Preview
Air Force is a 22.5-point underdog on the road against Army. The over/under is set at 41.5 points.
The Falcons have struggled mightily this season as Air Force's offense has been an issue. In the loss to Colorado State, the Falcons were shutout through three quarters but did score 13 points points in the fourth quarter to make the game more competitive than it looked.
This season, Air Force has been led by Cade Harris, who has rushed for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively, the Falcons only have one interception and five sacks, while Camby Goff leads the team with 40 tackles.
Army, meanwhile, has a legitimate path to the college football playoff. The Black Knights are coming off a big win over East Carolina, and coach Jeff Monken says the open week came at the perfect time.
“It’s time dedicated to trying to get refreshed and healthy,’’ said Monken, via RecordOnline.
“To just practice a couple of times (this bye) week and get extra treatment and lifts and those kinds of things that maybe we don’t get on a normal week where you play on Saturday and play again seven days later.
"There’s some opportunities for that and we do structure the practices and what we do each day throughout the week a little bit differently on a bye week,’’he added.
The Black Knights have been led by quarterback Bryson Daily, who has thrown for 629 passing yards and seven touchdowns. Daily has also rushed for 909 yards and 19 touchdowns.
On defense, Army is led by Casey Larkin and Jayden Mayes, who have two interceptions. Elo Modozie has three sacks, and Andon Thomas leads the way with 39 tackles.
The Black Knights have looked impressive and coach Monken says he has the team prepared every week.
“It’s about how well-coached the academies are, the Academy coaches and their preparation and how well they understand us and know us offensively and defensively. Troy (Calhoun) and I’ve been squaring off for 11 straight years … so it’s a lot of film and a lot of games.
“We’re just trying to focus our efforts on them and do the best we can to win a game that’s every year really, really fiercely contested and a hard game to win,’’ he concluded.
The Army's defense will be able to force a turnover or two against the Air Force and not let them get going offensively.
Prediction: Army 34, Air Force 7.
