The Alamo Bowl is one of the most popular bowls in college football under the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Bowl hosts competitions between the teams of the Big 12 Conference and the Pac 12 Conference. The Alamo Bowl was first played in 1993 and has continued over the years since then.

The Alamo Bowl also hosts competitions between the teams of the Southwest Conference and the Big Ten Conference. The Alamo Bowl takes place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The 2023 Alamo Bowl hosted a game between the Arizona Wildcats and the Oklahoma Sooners, in which the Arizona Wildcats claimed victory 38-24. The 2024 version of the Alamo Bowl will feature the BYU Cougars facing off against the Colorado Buffaloes on December 28, 2024.

What is the name of the Alamo Bowl Stadium?

The Alamo Bowl Stadium is called the Alamodome, as per StadiumDB. Located at 100 Montana Street, San Antonio, Texas 78203, United States, this stadium is used by the UTSA Roadrunners in college football. However, the stadium is also home to the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League (UFL).

Alamo Bowl Stadium History/Alamo Bowl Stadium Construction and Cost

The Alamo Bowl Stadium or the Alamodome is a multipurpose stadium that was first opened to the public on May 15, 1993, as per Alamodome. The construction of the stadium was done from 1990 to 1993. The stadium was constructed by Hunt Construction Group. The stadium was designed by Populous, Marmon Mok, W. E. Simpson Company, Inc. The construction of the stadium cost $186 million as per Alamodome. The stadium underwent renovations in 2005 and then again from 2007 to 2009.

The Alamodome is mainly constructed for football games. However, it also has retractable lower stands, thereby making it useful for basketball or hockey games. The stadium has a large dome that is supported by pylons in each corner. This makes the stadium successful in hosting not only football games but also other events like political, religious, entertainment, exhibitions, and others.

Alamo Bowl Stadium Capacity

The Alamo Bowl Stadium or the Alamo Stadium has the capacity to support 65,000 fans, as of December 2024, as per Alamodome. However, the stadium saw a record attendance of 66,166 fans during the 2007 Alamo Bowl game on December 29, 2007. This game was contested between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Texas A&M Aggies. The Penn State Nittany Lions won the game 24-17.
