The Texas Longhorns take on the Texas A&M Aggies at Kyle Field in Week 14 of the 2024 football season. Steve Sarkisian and his team migrated from the Big 12 to the SEC this season and are looking forward to securing a spot in the new 12-team playoffs.
After winning the Big 12 title last year, the Longhorns are the favorites to clinch the SEC title in their debut campaign. They are No. 1 in the conference standings with a 10-1 (6-1 SEC conference) record. Last week, the Longhorns emerged victorious over the Kentucky Wildcats, securing a four-game winning streak for themselves.
So heading into their final regular season game, who will be Texas' starting quarterback this weekend?
Texas Longhorns' starting quarterback against Texas A&M Aggies in Week 14
Quinn Ewers is expected to continue his duties as the starting quarterback against the Texas A&M Aggies. So far, he has recorded 2,089 yards and 23 passing touchdowns despite missing three games due to injury.
Last week, during their victory against the Kentucky Wildcats, Ewers completed 20-of-31 passes he attempted while tallying 191 yards and two passing touchdowns. He suffered a minor ankle injury during the game and is listed as probable in the initial availability report for this weekend.
However, after the game, Ewers said that the injury was not serious and he would give it his all to be at his full potential for the Lone Star Showdown in Week 14.
"It's just a little tender," Ewers said via On3.com. "Just got to do as much treatment as I can. We were around the 50-yard line, and I stepped up and kind of took off running a little bit, and then kind of got hip-drop tackled, and I think he kind of just rolled up on it a little bit. But it's football and stuff like that happens."
Texas Longhorns' quarterback depth chart
Apart from Quinn Ewers, Steve Sarkisian's team also have redshirt freshman Arch Manning and freshman Trey Owens in their quarterback depth chart. Coming out of Isidore Newman High School, Manning committed to playing for the Longhorns as a part of the 2023 recruiting class.
He redshirted his freshman campaign while appearing in two games for the team. He started in two games this season and has seen limited time on the field as Ewers' backup. Manning has recorded 939 yards and nine passing touchdowns this season.
On the other hand, Trey Owens joined the Longhorns as a part of the 2024 recruiting class. He made his debut for the team during their 56-7 victory against UTSA. Owens recorded 19 passing yards while completing 2-of-4 passes he attempted on the field.
