Arizona State vs Arizona: Preview
Arizona State is a nine-point road favorite and the over/under is set at 53.5 points.
If the Sun Devils win against the Wildcats, they will be in the Big 12 championship game with a chance to make the College Football Playoff.
Although Arizona has struggled this season, Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham said that this game was circled on their calendar to get revenge for last year.
"We got our butts kicked last year and got embarrassed, so it's a game that matters," Dillingham said during his Monday press conference, via SI. "If you weren't here, the other guys on our team got embarrassed, I got embarrassed, so you better have a little bit about yourself when somebody embarrasses you like that.
"They've got the same quarterback, returning the same wide receiver. They've got a lot of the same players returning off that football team off a team that picked us apart."
ASU is led by Sam Leavitt who has thrown for 2,153 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. Cam Skattebo has rushed for 1,221 yards and 14 TDs, and Jordyn Tyson leads the team with 958 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Arizona is 1-6 in their last seven games. However, the Wildcats are eager to try and end Arizona State's playoff hopes.
“The mindset is this is the biggest game of the year, every year, and that doesn’t change,” Wildcats coach Brent Brennan said on Monday, via ArizonaSports. “For us, whether we’re bowl eligible or not, all that matters is we’re playing the team from up north. We’re all-in on right now and this week, and what we needed to get done to play good football on Saturday to get it done.”
Arizona is led by Noah Fifita who has thrown for 2,832 yards, 17 TDs and 12 interceptions. Quali Conley has rushed for 719 yards and Tetairoa McMillan has 1,251 receiving yards.
This has always been a great rivalry game, but Arizona State has a chip on its shoulder from last year. The Sun Devils also have a chance to make the CFP, so expect them to come out strong and cruise to a win to punch their ticket to the Big 12 Championship.
Prediction: Arizona State 34, Arizona 21
