Auburn vs Kentucky: Preview

Auburn is a 2.5-point underdog on the road while the over/under is set at 43.5 points.

The Tigers have disappointed this season but Auburn did play Missouri tough last week. However, Auburn's problem has been its quarterback play. It was called out this season for its quarterback play due to its turnovers.

The Tigers are led by running back Jarquez Hunter who has rushed for 585 yards and three touchdowns. KeAndre Lambert-Smith has 526 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Defensively, Auburn is led by Jalen McLeod and Keldrick Faulk who have five sacks and Dorian Mausi Jr. who has 40 tackles.

Kentucky, meanwhile, is coming off a lackluster performance against Florida. The Wildcats struggled on both sides of the ball, but Auburn coach Hugh Freeze says it is an outlier and expects Kentucky to be much better here.

“It was an outlier for the Kentucky team. I mean, obviously, give Florida a ton of credit for making the explosive plays they did and playing as well as they did. Typically no one, if you look at the stats, has put up near those numbers for this year, including some very, very, very good football teams,” Freeze said, via On3.

“The job that they’ve done against explosive teams like Ole Miss and Georgia this year is probably the more realistic version of what you get from a Kentucky defense and offensively, man, they’re really well coached."

The Wildcats are led by quarterback Brock Vandagriff who has thrown for 1,116 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. Dane Key leads the way with 500 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, J.J. Weaver leads the way with four sacks and Jordan Leavitt with 36 tackles.

Kentucky and Auburn have both struggled this season, but the Wildcats should be able to get a big win at home. Kentucky has good defense and should rebound nicely here against Auburn and force a turnover or two against this struggling Tigers defense.

Ultimately, this will likely be a low-scoring game as both offenses struggle, but the Wildcats defense will make the difference.
