Off an eight-win 2024 season, the Baylor Bears are now dealing with the transfer portal. Across the sport, players are coming and going and Baylor has certainly been no exception.
Despite a promising finish to the 2024 campaign, circumstances, playing time, or football strategy has led plenty of players to move elsewhere.
When Baylor opened the 2024 season at 2-4, rumors swirled that coach Dave Aranda's days in Waco might be limited. But Aranda turned the season around by leading his squad to six straight wins to finish the regular season.
After a bowl loss to LSU, here are the top three Baylor players who have opted to move into the portal.
Baylor transfer portal losses: Top 3 players to enter portal in winter window
3. Corey Gordon, S
A three-star recruit from Oklahoma, Gordon played in just two games in 2022, using his redshirt year. But then, over the past two seasons, Gordon racked up 64 tackles. He had a trio of interceptions in 2024 and has been a significant impact player on the Baylor defense.
Gordon has two years of eligibility left ahead of him and has chosen to move on to the Louisville Cardinals. Jeff Brohm's Cardinals are making inroads towards the top of the ACC and adding a veteran defensive back with a nose for the football certainly won't hurt.
2. Alvin Ebosele, OT
A massive 6-foot-6 tackle, Ebosele was a three-star prospect from Texas out of high school. He worked his way into substantial playing time at Baylor. Over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Ebosele started 14 games for the Bears at left tackle.
Offensive tackles are something of a premium position in the portal and Ebosele was significantly recruited following his portal entry. He ultimately chose the Houston Cougars, remaining in the state for his next school. Ebosele will have two years of remaining eligibility there.
1. DeQuan Finn, QB
Grey-beard QB DeQuan Finn will prepare for his seventh season of college football. Finn was brought in from Toledo, where he threw for 7,083 yards and 63 touchdowns in three seasons as a starter. Finn didn't see much action at Baylor after a season-ending injury short-circuited his season after just three games.
Finn still has a season of eligibility and has chosen to transfer to Miami or Ohio for his apparent final season. His talent is undeniable, but it's fair to wonder if a player who will turn 24 during the season still has as much energy in the tank as he once did.
