The Big Ten expansion could be on the horizon, with one of the more likely scenarios being Texas A&M joining the Big Ten. The school has been part of the SEC since 2011 but there have been discussions that the program could be potentially leaving the conference following the SEC's addition to the Texas Longhorns this offseason.
College football insider Greg Swaim took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain why Texas A&M moving to Big Ten could be the next step of the expansion.
"Why does the #B1G and #NotreDame both want #TAMU as the second team coming in for the future? Because both the B10 and Irish want to get into Texas... it's just that simple!!" Greg Swaim posted on X (formerly Twitter).
This makes sense, as the Texas A&M Aggies have been viewed as a key asset in bringing the SEC into the state of Texas. With the SEC now having the Texas Longhorns, they might be more inlclined to let the Aggies leave for Big Ten.
Conference realignment: Texas A&M to Big Ten looks more likely than ever
The conference realignment stories in college football have been one of the most exciting parts of the sport. Texas A&M to Big Ten expansion has been a solid position that people have been projecting for a few years as the rumors of the Texas Longhorns joining the SEC have been bubbling.
Having Texas A&M as well as Texas does make sense, but if the SEC is just trying to have a presence in the state of Texas, the Longhorns are the more notable program. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has gone on record and mentioned how he is more focused on his current members than an expansion for the conference but there is a chance that Texas A&M could go to Big Ten.
Texas A&M to Big Ten would be beneficial for both sides, as the Big Ten expansion would see a lot of hope for adding the state of Texas. However, the Big Ten would be getting a program from the SEC as well as getting an enormous boost in the Big Ten Conference as a whole. No doubt, it will be a massive addition.
