Week 3 of the college football season is in the books, and with it, there are some big winners and losers. Some teams looked great this week while others looked like their seasons could already be over. Here are the top winners and losers from Week 3.
Biggest winners of Week 3
Memphis
The Tigers took care of business this week, dispatching the Florida State Seminoles 20-12. Although the Seminoles have not performed well this season, that does not take away from a good defensive effort by Memphis. This win brings the Tigers record to 3-0 early in the year and makes them one of the biggest winners of the week.
Indiana
Indiana has had an incredible start to the year and a 42-13 win over UCLA this week improves its record to 3-0. The Hoosiers sit at the top of the Big Ten and look like a powerhouse early this season. Quarterback Kurtis Rourke continued to live up to expectations, and with a manageable schedule coming up, Indiana could be winners for several weeks.
Notre Dame
No team in college football needed to be winners this week more than Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish were coming off arguably the most surprising upset loss of the season to Northern Illinois in Week 2. Notre Dame was able to bounce back decisively with a 66-7 win over Purdue. Although it was an expected win, winning in that fashion might just be what Notre Dame needs to get its season rolling.
Biggest losers of Week 3
Florida
After a blowout loss to Miami in Week 1 at home, the Gators were defeated at home again this week, this time by Texas A&M. The Aggies won the game 33-20 and did so without starting QB Conner Weigman. If things do not turn around for the Gators quickly, Billy Napier could be the first major firing of the season.
Florida State
The Seminoles never expected to be 0-3 to start the year, but this is where they are now. Florida State was a preseason top-10 team but now sits at the bottom of the ACC. The Seminoles lost 20-12 to Memphis this week, and the schedule will not be easier. DJ Uiagalelei has not lived up to expectations and now the Seminoles are nearly out of playoff contention in mid-September.
Kansas
Kansas was a ranked team to start the season and even started well with a win in Week 1. However, all optimism is almost completely gone for the Jayhawks after back-to-back losses to Illinois and UNLV.
The Jayhawks gave this game away after they took a 17-6 lead. Unfortunately for them, the offense disappeared after that and eventually lost 23-20.
