Bill Belichick pays a heartfelt tribute to NFL years while revealing life-long desire to coach at college level

Bill Belichick is arguably the greatest head coach in NFL history. The former New England Patriots coach won six Super Bowls as a head coach and much more.

Speaking ahead of the start of his stint as the coach of UNC, Belichick said,

"I've always wanted to coach in college football, and it just never really worked out. I had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK. But this is really a dream come true."

While it might come at an enjoyable time, it's interesting to see Bill Belichick still enthusiastic about a challenge.

Why did Bill Belichick choose North Carolina?

Bill Belichick won everything there was to win in the National Football League. The legendary coach had a consistent crop of players, like future Hall of Famer Tom Brady.

Belichick chose to coach the North Carolina Tar Heels to fulfill a childhood dream. The iconic coach's father, Steve Belichick, was a long-time college coach who spent some time at UNC. Hence, the younger Belichick is enthusiastic about following his father's path and going the extra mile by winning a national championship.

Belichick has spoken about his admiration for North Carolina's culture, and he believes that his deep knowledge of the National Football League will serve him well at the collegiate level. Now that the New England Patriots icon has signed a five-year contract, it's time to pay more attention to UNC in the college football picture moving forward.

How is North Carolina performing in the 2024 season?

North Carolina is having an up-and-down season in 2024. The program has picked up decent wins over the year but ruined the momentum with disappointing losses.

North Carolina started the season with a three-game winning streak. They embarked on a four-game losing streak, another three-game winning streak and a two-game skid.

It faces the UConn Huskies in the 2024 Wasabi Fenway Bowl. A win will see the program end the year with a winning record of 7-6, while a loss will put them on the other side of the spectrum.
