On Thursday night, Maryland Terrapins quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. announced he will enter the transfer portal. Edwards Jr. was the starting quarterback for one season.
Edwards Jr. went 273-for-420 for 2,881 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He will be highly sought after in the transfer portal, and here are three landing spots for the quarterback.
Billy Edwards Jr. transfer portal landing spots
#1, Michigan Wolverines
The Michigan Wolverines are expected to land Edwards Jr. in the transfer portal. CFB insider Pete Nakos of On3 predicted Edwards would land with the Michigan Wolverines.
"Sources tell On3’s Steve Wiltfong and I that Michigan is the early leader to land Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards," Nakos wrote. "Wiltfong and I have logged predictions in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Edwards to land at Michigan with 60% confidence. Sherrone Moore’s program is working to rebuild its wide receiver room in the portal, too."
Edwards Jr. was third in the Big Ten in passing with 2,881 yards, throwing for 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Michigan coach Sherrone Moore has also said they want to add a quarterback in the transfer portal. However, the Wolverines did land top high school recruit Bryce Underwood who will compete for the starting job as a true freshman.
#2, Wisconsin Badgers
The Wisconsin Badgers seem to be the second-likeliest option to land Edwards Jr. as their starting QB in 2025. Wisconsin will host Edwards Jr. on a visit according to Chris Hummer on 247Sports.
Edwards Jr. has one year left of college eligibility and will be one of the top quarterbacks available in the transfer portal. Wisconsin had a need at quarterback as last year's starter, Tyler Van Dyke has also entered the portal. The Badgers are coming off a season where they failed to become bowl-eligible.
#3, Virginia
Billy Edwards Jr. will likely decide between Michigan and Wisconsin. However, Edwards Jr. is from Virginia, so if he wants to return home, going to play for the Cavaliers makes sense.
Virginia struggled last season, going 5-7. The Cavaliers need to overhaul their roster and it should start with quarterback. Edwards Jr. will be highly sought after and in his final year of college eligibility returning home could make sense. However, it does look like Edwards Jr. will remain in the Big Ten at Michigan or Wisconsin.
