Boise State coach Spencer Danielson has done a phenomenal job with the Broncos. The Azusa Pacific linebacker took over the head coaching job in 2023 and has compiled a 16–2 record.
Ahead of the Broncos' second-round college football playoff game against the Penn State Nittany Lions, Spencer Danielson made an eye-catching statement about the program's future.
The 2024 MW Coach of the Year said:
"With the success comes continuing to push the needle. That is my call to our supporters, administration, and the state: ' Hey, we have a surplus this season.' But it is something for me to use and sound the horn that we must do more and continue to push forward where college football is, for our staff, for our players … we need to improve our staff salaries. We must. We have to push the needle on the collective and the NIL space for our players. They deserve it. So that is something I am very open about because we have the resources in this community."
"What we did this year will not be enough moving forward. It is no different a year from now. We must continue pushing the needle. I am not saying we must go where these other schools might be, but we must get closer," he added.
Spencer Danielson isn't content with merely dominating the MW Championship. He wants his program to become a perennial threat in the expanded college football playoffs.
What's next for Spencer Danielson and the Boise State Broncos?
The Broncos are enjoying a fairytale season. They're in the second round of the expanded college football playoffs. The Broncos were flawless in conference games, and their only loss of the season came against the Oregon Ducks in their second game of the regular season.
After that loss, the Ashton Jeanty-inspired Broncos went on an 11-game winning streak to close out the regular season. They secured a first-round bye and will now face the Penn State Nittany Lions in the second round.
The Broncos will fancy their chances against the Nittany Lions as they have the best running back in college football, a serviceable defense, and an accurate quarterback. The Broncos have a home advantage, so you can be sure their fans will root for their heroes in this special matchup. Expect Jeanty and Co. to perform as they aim for an improbable run to the national championship.
