Brent Pry is the head coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies, as of 2024. Taking up this role in 2022, Pry's record is 16-20, as of the 2024 season. Pry is also a former football player, beginning at Lexington High, where he played as a quarterback and defensive back. He played college football at Maryville College and transferred to the University of Buffalo. He became a student coach at Buffalo in 1992 after a season-ending injury in 1991.

Pry's coaching journey began at East Stroudsburg University in 1993, where he worked as an outside linebackers and defensive backs coach. He then returned to Virginia Tech from 1995 to 1997 as a graduate assistant under legendary head coach Frank Beamer. During this period, he contributed to the Hokies' success, helping the team reach three bowl games. After his stint at Virginia Tech, Pry held various coaching positions, including defensive coordinator roles at Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis. His tenure at Vanderbilt from 2011 to 2013 saw him co-coordinate a defense that achieved remarkable success, including wins against ranked opponents. In 2016, he was promoted to defensive coordinator at Penn State, where he led one of the nation’s top defenses and played a pivotal role in the Nittany Lions' Big Ten Championship victory. Brent Pry returned to Virginia Tech as head coach in 2022. By the end of the 2023 season, Pry had led Virginia Tech to notable achievements including a 5-3 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), marking their best conference performance since 2019. The Hokies also finished in the top 20 nationally for total defense and secured their 35th bowl appearance by defeating Tulane in the Military Bowl.
