Brock Bowers injury: How long is Georgia Bulldogs TE out?

Georgia v Vanderbilt
Brock Bowers in Georgia vs. Vanderbilt

Brock Bowers, an All-American tight end, suffered an ankle sprain in Georgia’s game against Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, on Oct. 14. The tight end left the game with a noticeable limp and entered the injury tent.

His injury comes as a huge blow for the top-ranked Bulldogs in their aim to secure a third consecutive national championship. Bowers has been instrumental in Georgia's offense, recording 37 receptions for 545 yards and four touchdowns. He also has a rushing touchdown, and he was pivotal in the previous two national title runs.

Brock Bowers had successfully tightrope surgery on his ankle and will spend a couple of weeks on the sideline as he continues his recovery process. There's optimism that the tight end will play again this season.

The program's strong desire to have Bowers back in action this season has prompted Bowers to opt for the tightrope surgical procedure.

What happened to Brock Bowers?

Against Vanderbilt, Brock Bowers landed awkwardly and uncomfortably while executing an end-around run play. X-rays conducted on the foot following the game showed the ankle sprain required surgery to heal faster.

When will Brock Bowers return?

The typical recovery period for a tightrope surgical procedure usually ranges from four to six weeks, indicating the potential for Brock Bowers to make a return later in the season. He has been present with the team during some walkthrough sessions, according to coach Kirby Smart.

The absence of the tight end is expected to be felt by the Bulldogs as he has established himself as their best offensive power, recording 100 yards receiving in three consecutive games before his injury against Vanderbilt.

With Bowers out, Georgia will turn to sophomore Oscar Delp, along with freshmen Pearce Spurlin and Lawson Luckie, to step up and fill the void. Delp has already contributed with 13 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns this season.
