Caleb Downs is an American football safety playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Born and raised in Hoschton, Georgia, Downs attended Mill Creek High School, where he earned recognition as one of the top recruits in the nation. Downs was not only named the All-American Bowl Player of the Year during his senior year but also ranked as the number one safety prospect in the 2023 recruiting class by Rivals and 247Sports, among others.
In July 2022, Downs committed to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide, choosing Alabama over other prestigious programs such as Clemson, Georgia, and Notre Dame. After joining the Ohio State Buckeyes, Downs, in his sophomore season, was recognized as a finalist for both the Jim Thorpe Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award, prestigious accolades given to the top defensive back and the best defensive player in college football, respectively. On the field, Downs recorded 68 total tackles, including 51 solo tackles, and led all Big Ten defensive backs with 6.5 tackles for loss. One of the highlights of Downs' season was his 79-yard punt return for a touchdown against Indiana, marking Ohio State's first punt return touchdown in a decade.
