Cam Ward has revived Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal's team this season as they remain undefeated heading into Week 9 of college football action. Ward was instrumental in the Hurricanes' 52-45 win in Week 8 against the Louisville Cardinals. He registered 319 yards on 65.6% completion resulting in four touchdowns.

Ward has recorded 2,538 yards on 68.7% completion resulting in 24 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also leads college football with a QBR of 92.3% while throwing for 300 or more yards in every game he's played this season.

One of Ward's biggest QB competition heading into the season was Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders, who has led his team to a commendable 5-2 record.

Sanders has 2,268 yards on 72.2% completion resulting in 19 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. His QBR of 72.3% ranks him No. 35 nationally.

After Week 8, Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty leads the Heisman Trophy odds with +220, ahead of Cam Ward with +260, after his performance against Louisville strengthened his case.

Despite his strong numbers, Shedeur Sanders is ranked No. 11 with +5,000, way behind Ward and even teammate, two-way star Travis Hunter at No. 4 with +1800.

Analysts differ on the Cam Ward versus Shedeur Sanders debate

During last week's episode of "The Herd," FOX Sports analyst Colin Herd was complimentary towards Shedeur Sanders over Cam Ward, citing his size as a concern despite his obvious eye-catching statistics.

"I watched Shedeur Sanders and I think it's pretty obvious that's the No. 1 pick for a couple of reasons," Cowherd said. "Quinn Ewers, I like him [but] he's hurt again, I don't love that. Like Sam Bradford, hurt in college, hurt in the pros. Cam Ward, he feels small, I've fallen for this before. Shedeur Sanders is the same height and I never think about his height."

However, his fellow analyst Joel Klatt is not convinced that Sanders is that much better than Ward, outlining some of the Buffs QB's struggles.

"I just don't think he's [Sanders] separated like what you're trying to suggest," Klatt said. "He very well may be the first pick, I think Shedeur Sanders is such a better player than he gets credit for... There are two things that I think he needs to get better at. Number one, he's got to quit holding onto the football, he's allergic to incompletions so he doesn't want to throw the football away."

Should Cam Ward lead the Miami Hurricanes to ACC championship honors and a College Football Playoff spot, he will likely be on the podium in New York come December.
