Yes, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers can transfer again. The Longhorns star retains his eligibility entering the 2024 college football season and can enter the transfer portal at the end of the year.
According to ESPN, the NCAA approved a new rule that allows all undergraduate athletes to transfer and play immediately once they meet specific academic requirements. Furthermore, the rule states that there's no limit on how many times a player can transfer. There are two transfer windows, but players cannot transfer mid-season and play for a second program in the same season.
Quinn Ewers enters his third season at Texas
Quinn Ewers joined the Texas Longhorns after one year with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ewers redshirted in his sole season at Ohio State; hence, he joined Texas as a redshirt freshman.
Upon joining the Longhorns, Ewers quickly became the team's starting quarterback. He posted a stat line of 2,177 passing yards, 15 TDs and six picks in the 2022 season. Ewers led the Longhorns to eight wins in his first year with the program, vindicating the program's decision to entrust him with the keys to the offense.
Ewers entered his sophomore season with the Longhorns as one of the most hyped quarterbacks in the country. The Texas-born star improved, posting a stat line of 3,479 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. He led them to a CFP semifinals slot, where they narrowly lost to Washington. There were rumors that Ewers would transfer ahead of the 2024 season, but he stayed put.
Ewers announced his return for the 2024 CFB season by saying via Instagram:
“One more year with my teammates and one extra year of development with Coach Sark made the most sense."
Speaking about the legacy he’d like to leave at Texas, Ewers told ESPN:
“I want to be the QB who worked every year to improve. The QB who loved his teammates, the quarterback who won many ball games and brought the Texas Longhorns football back to the top of collegiate football where it belongs."
Quinn Ewers will seek to solidify his draft stock and potentially enter the Top 5 conversation. The Longhorns are among the best teams in college football, and they'll aim to go at least one better in 2024.
