Sherrone Moore is set to face NCAA disciplinary action as part of the ongoing sign-stealing investigation. The Michigan coach is among the seven members of the program from the 2023 college football season accused of violating NCAA rules.
According to a notice of allegation draft obtained by ESPN, Moore could face a show-cause penalty and also a possible suspension. This is because the coach allegedly deleted a thread of 52 text messages with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions.
This incident is said to have occurred in October, falling on the same day news reports disclosed that Stalions was leading an effort to capture future opponents’ play-calling signals. These messages were eventually recovered through device imaging before Moore subsequently provided them to enforcement staff
What is Sherrone Moore charged for by the NCAA?
Sherrone Moore, who was Michigan's offensive coordinator last season, is accused of committing a Level 2 violation by the NCAA, according to the draft obtained by ESPN. This is for his knowledge and involvement in the program's sign-stealing operation
Moore is now considered as a potential "repeat violator" by the NCAA Committee on Infractions. In addition to his possible involvement in the sign-stealing scandal, in August he negotiated a resolution to allegations that he had reached out to recruits during the COVID-19 recruiting dead period.
Following Jim Harbaugh's exit from Michigan after the national championship success in January, Sherrone Moore, who led the Wolverines in four games in 2023, was named successor. However, the accusation now places his tenure in Ann Arbor in a bit of uncertainty.
Sheronne Moore already possesses big dreams for 2024
While he has to deal with a lot of uncertainties when the NCAA eventually shares the notice of allegation with Michigan, Sheronne Moore already possesses a big dream for the upcoming season.
"We're not going to stray away from the goal of trying to win it all," Moore said during the Big Ten media days last month. "When you're at Michigan, that should be your goal every single year.
“Team 145 has really done a really good job up to this point in taking the necessary steps to be elite, to do all the things that we set out to do — win the big games, beat our rivals, beat Ohio State, win the Big Ten, go to College Football Playoff and win it.”
There's a lot of anticipation ahead of his first season in charge of the team. He is expected by fans in Ann Arbor to keep the momentum of the Jim Harbaugh era having shown what he can do in the previous season.
