Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was one of the key forces behind the Crimson Tide's tremendous 12-2 run in the 2023 college football season.
Last year, Jalen Milroe scored 23 touchdowns, made six interceptions and threw for 2,843 yards. Milroe has proved himself as a leader and will go into the 2024 season as Alabama's starting quarterback for the second year in a row.
The Crimson Tide has lost big names such as Dallas Turner, JC Latham, Terrion Arnold and Nick Saban.
However, new head coach Kalen DeBoer has done a good job of bringing in talented powerhouses like Keelon Russell, Zabien Brown and five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams.
In a conversation with "The Spun," Jalen Milroe opened up about his mentality going into the season:
"I think the challenge is for other teams to stop us. We have a starving group that's in the locker room. That's the thing that we have, that mentality to try and improve and get better as a whole. When you have individuals that are constantly trying to improve and build with their teammates, that's when you can build a great team. That's what we have. I don't feel any added pressure at all."
"At some point, we're going to have game 1, we're going to have game 2, we're going to have game 3, we're going to get to game 6 at some point. Why look at the future when you have things that you can improve on right now? That's what we have right now. The process of now."
Kalen DeBoer about changing Nick Saban's system at Alabama
Kalen DeBoer has proved himself as a coach at every stop. In 2023, he led the Washington team to an electrifying 14-1 record and also won the Pac-12 championship.
Many college football analysts and fans agree that DeBoer was the best choice to replace Nick Saban and take Alabama's legacy forward.
One significant change that DeBoer has introduced is early practice timings. Nick Saban held their practices from 3:30–5:30 pm, but Kalen DeBoer has gone the morning route:
"We are going to go to morning practices, that's a little different. That's something that I've done. That will be a little different for the guys, but they have embraced and enjoyed everything we've done this summer. They feel like they've got a lot of work done when the clock hits noon. Then, they can go on to the academic and social part of their day."
Fans will be interested to see if Jalen Milroe and Kalen DeBoer can lead Alabama to the college football playoffs in the post-Nick Saban era.
