Chop Robinson injury update: Latest on the Penn State DE for CFB Week 9

Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson left the game against Ohio State on Saturday with a head injury. It was a distressing sight as he collided with Buckeyes offensive line Matthew Jones at around the 10-minute mark in the second quarter. It appeared to be a hard hit as Robinson was taken off the field with a towel draped around his head.

The Nittany Lions lost 20-12 to the Buckeyes to suffer their first defeat of the 2023 season. They also lost DE Amin Vanover to a leg injury in the matchup.

Establishing himself as Penn State's top pass rusher this season, Robinson's absence on the field made the game even more difficult for the Nittany Lions. They were seeking their first win against Ohio State in seven years, but the Week 8 contest ended in favor of the Buckeyes.

Chop Robinson injury update

There’s currently no official update on Chop Robinson from Penn State. However, the collision during the game didn't appear to lead to an apparent injury. Nonetheless, the DE experienced significant pain immediately, leading to his exit from the matchup.

Penn State fans and college football enthusiasts anticipate an official announcement of his status ahead of the Nittany Lions Week 9 game against Indiana. It remains unknown whether Robinson will be able to feature against the Hoosiers in the upcoming weekend at the Beaver Stadium.

What happened to Chop Robinson?

Chop Robinson went down after a collision with Ohio State's Matthew Jones as he attempted to make a block. The team's trainers promptly attended to him on the field while he laid his face on the ground before assisting him back to his feet and guiding him to the sideline.

Subsequently, he was transported to the locker room on a cart for additional assessment. His absence in the game against Ohio State was evident as the team's 10 quarterback pressure on Kyler McCord was a season-low. The team will hope to have him back soon enough.

When will Chop Robinson return?

It remains to be seen when Robinson returns to action, as there have yet to be any updates from the school. However, the injury will probably not rule him out for the rest of the 2023 season. In essence, Penn State fans can expect to see him play once again this season.

Robinson has been a key contributor to the Penn State defense in the ongoing season. Going into Saturday's game against Ohio State, he recorded 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks and was ranked second on the Nittany Lions in both statistical categories.

With his performances this season and earlier years for the Nittany Lions, the junior defensive end is currently projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
