On Tuesday, CJ Baxter suffered a knee injury during Texas fall camp practice. The running back had a brilliant last college football season and is anticipated to have the same in 2024. Nonetheless, uncertainty arises following his injury on Tuesday.
CJ Baxter was believed to have suffered an ACL tear that would rule him out for extended periods. However, on Wednesday, Texas insider Anwar Richardson confirmed that the talented RB suffered an LCL/PCL tear in practice.
Nonetheless, that doesn't make much difference as Baxter will miss the upcoming college football season.

“I just learned Texas running back CJ Baxter is expected to miss the season after tearing his LCL/PCL during practice on Tuesday. Baxter's injury will require surgery and the recovery time is between six to nine months,” Richardson tweeted on X (formerly Twitter).
Bobby Burton gave earlier insight on CJ Baxter’s injury
Texas insider Bobby Burton had given his insights on CJ Baxter's injury before Anwar Richardson confirmed. Burton shared that the injury isn't an outright case of ACL and that Texas is working to get more information from experts.
“The initial MRI results of Cedric Baxter’s knee injury have been received,” Burton wrote. “It’s our understanding that Baxter and Texas are now in the process of getting additional opinions from other experts in the field as I type this. We do not believe it’s a straightforward case of an ACL tear.
“However, I was also cautioned that that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods either. Even something categorized as a “sprain” is actually a slight tear, and there are other parts of the knee that may even be compromised as well. We’ll continue to monitor the outcome here.”
The confirmation by Richardson clears the air around Baxter's injury. This is undoubtedly a huge loss for the Texas Longhorns as they play their first season in the Southeastern Conference in 2024.
Jaydon Blue is expected to take over for Baxter in the Longhorns offense next season. The junior has appeared in 23 games as a backup for Texas in the last two seasons but hasn't had much time on the field. He's only rushed for 431 yards and three touchdowns in 80 carries for the program.
