NCAA football games from EA Sports had an 11-year hiatus before the appearance of College Football 25. Needless to say, all that time gave the game developers a chance to make some pretty significant tweaks to the game. In fact, they did just that.
Here's a rundown of some of the biggest differences between NCAA Football 14 and College Football 25.
15 differences between NCAA Football 14 and College Football 25
#1. AI stepped things up.
NCAA 14: The computer does have the ability to catch onto your trends, but even varying up to half a dozen plays will keep the computer off balance.
CF25: The computer's AI is practically human-level. Have strong tendencies based on down and distance or formation? You'll get stopped in a hurry in College Football 25.
#2. Actual player names appear
NCAA 14: No real player names. Generic names, albeit generic names that could be changed to real names by users.
CF25: Real player names for the vast majority of FBS players. But those names can't be changed by users, to prevent the kind of tweaks that used to occur in NCAA 14.
#3. Player Ability Changes
NCAA 14: Player abilities often seem arbitrary, and one of the joys of recruiting was finding a player the computer just fundamentally misunderstood and misused.
CF25: Player abilities are much more realistic and thoroughly established, and can be tweaked based on player archetypes.
#4. Coverage Shells Tweaks
NCAA 14: Players can change defenses at the line, but it rarely works well and often only limited selections.
CF25: With coverage shells, players can easily show one look and then slide to another before the ball is snapped.
#5. Coach Vision Mode
NCAA 14: Brief pre-snap vision showed only alignment of players.
CF25: Coach Vision mode allows not only the vision of players but also possible wear and tear issues and player composure.
#6. Coach Archetypes
NCAA 14: Build a coach but with no real personalization aside from a name and a handful of physical features that could be customized.
CF25: Aside from more choices on a coach's look, archetype selection allows for very different coach-building experiences.
#7. Road to the College Football Playoff
NCAA 14: (silence)
CF25: Challenging mode that allows a 10-game head-to-head with other top players for online rankings.
#8. Team Builder Cuts
NCAA 14: Can use Team Builder on any mode of the game.
CF25: Can use Team Builder only in offline Dynasty and Play Now modes – likely another complication of the NIL situation.
#9. Conservative tackle
NCAA 14: Your tackles generally work, even dives or hit sticks.
CF25: Your tackles may not work... unless you choose the conservative tackle (X or square button, depending on the console)
#10. Wear and tear
NCAA 14: No wear and tear. Frequent injuries, but nothing else.
CF25: Shy of injuries, wear and tear can limit a player's effectiveness due to overuse.
#11. More graphic tweaks
NCAA 14: Impressive amount of graphic tweaks, more than the old NCAA Football 99, where Purdue's mascot was an old man in the end zone shaking a stick.
CF25: Crazy immersive tweaks, like running into the stadium at Clemson. Also, all FBS school fight songs.
#12. Dynasties aren't forever
NCAA 14: Play your Dynasty until the game melts. Nothing will stop you.
CF25: Dynasties are 30 years. If you want 31 years, start a new dynasty.
#13. Stadium Pulse Meter
NCAA 14: No such creature. Not since NCAA 06.
CF25: The stadium volume meter is back, and again can be jump-started by your outstanding plays.
#14. Road to Glory
NCAA 14: Enjoy your road to Glory. Since 2012, Madden wouldn't allow you to port in an RTG player.
CF25: Enjoy your road to Glory and then follow your player into Madden25 and the NFL.
#15. Kicking
NCAA 14: Field goal? Easy.
CF25: Field goal? Shut your eyes and push a button, the odds are about the same.
