The College Football Playoff race is heating up in the Southeastern Conference with six weeks remaining in the regular season. 13 of 16 teams in the SEC have a record above .500 with many looking to build playoff resumes as the season progresses.

There are nine SEC teams ranked in the AP Top 25 and four teams ranked in the top 10 of the AP Poll. The Alabama Crimson Tide were the premier team in the SEC following Week 6 but have slipped since being ranked the No. 1 team in the country. Alabama is 1-2 since their win over the Georgia Bulldogs, just getting past South Carolina for their lone win during this stretch.

Here's a closer look at the Tide's playoff chances with a 5-2 record entering Week 9.

Where does Alabama rank in the AP Top 25?

Following its Week 8 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers, Alabama received the No. 15 ranking in the AP Top 25. While they were the No. 1 team in the country, the Crimson Tide fell to No. 7 following their historic upset loss against the Vanderbilt Commodores. After the loss to Tennessee, Alabama fell for a third straight week.

Despite their slide in the rankings, Alabama still has a chance to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff in a highly contested SEC.

What are the odds for Alabama to win the national championship?

With a 5-2 record and a 2-2 record in the SEC standings, Alabama's odds of winning the national championship have slipped over the last three weeks. Entering Week 9, the Crimson Tide have the ninth-best national championship odds in the country at (+1900) and the fourth-best odds of any SEC team.

Georgia (+330), Texas (+500) and Tennessee (+1500) all have better championship odds in the conference.

Will Alabama make the College Football Playoff?

Ahead of their next game against the No. 21 Missouri Tigers (6-1, 2-1 in SEC), Alabama's playoff hopes aren't looking good, but that could change quickly. In their next two games, they have matchups versus Top 25 teams. After taking on Missouri, Alabama has a week off in Week 10. Coming off their open week, they travel to Baton Rouge to take on the No. 8 LSU Tigers.

Wins in each of these games could turn Alabama's playoff hopes around, but the Crimson Tide may still need some help come College Football Playoff selection time.
