Bowl eligibility is a valuable consolation prize for teams not in the college football playoffs. Since only 12 teams can make the playoffs, many are happy to earn bowl eligibility and play in a non-playoff bowl game.
To earn bowl eligibility, a team must have won at least six games and have a minimum winning percentage of .500. Additionally, only one win against an FCS opponent can count toward the total number of wins. However, if there are not enough teams with winning records to fill the bowl games, teams with 5-7 records may be invited.
The NCAA relaxed bowl eligibility starting in the 2006-07 season when it increased the number of bowl games. There are 43 Division I bowl games, meaning that 86 teams need to be selected for these games.
College football teams bowl eligibility tracker 2024-25
As Week 13 comes to a close, there is only one week left before bowl games are determined. There are 77 teams with bowl eligibility heading into the final week of the regular season.
Since 86 teams are needed, if not enough teams that are one win away from eligibility win their Week 14 matchups, the remaining teams will be selected from the 5-7 teams.
However, if there are more than 86 eligible teams, not all qualified teams will get a bowl game appearance. Teams with better records will earn preferential treatment. So, it will come down to the teams with even records as teams that could miss out on a bowl game despite being eligible.
These are the 77 teams that earned eligibility after Week 13. Former Pac-12 teams are eligible for bowls with Pac-12 contracts this season, so they are included on the Pac-12 list.
