"Confidence of Jalen Milroe has gone way up": $70,000,000 worth Nick Saban reveals the reason behind boost in Alabama starting QB's performance

College Football: Alabama vs. Texas A&M

One of Nick Saban's biggest issues on his Alabama team ahead of the 2023 season was at the quarterback position. The Crimson Tide found it hard to replace 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young after having a brilliant succession at quarterback for seven seasons.

Jalen Milroe started the season a bit sharky, getting easily sacked by the opposition's defense. However, following his brilliant performance against Texas A&M in Week 6, the quarterback has gained a lot of confidence, and Nick Saban recognizes this.

Making his weekly appearance on ESPN's "The Pat McAfee Show," Saban called Milroe "talented" and said the prospect has been working with the Alabama coaching staff to improve his production on the field.

“I think his confidence, relationships and understanding with his coaches of exactly what he needs to do as a player has gone way up, and I think that is what has helped his performance.
“I mean, the guy’s a talented guy. He can throw the ball accurately down the field. He’s a really good athlete. He can extend plays and can make plays with his feet. This progression that we kind of needed for him to just play quarterback has been really, really, exponentially improving week by week,” Nick Saban said.

Jalen Milroe's continuous development

While Jalen Milroe has been brilliant with his feet right from the season opener against Middle Tennessee, there was a lot of doubt about his passes as well as locating his receivers. However, this seems to have improved following the game at Texas A&M.

Nick Saban praised his QB1, who has Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson breathing down his neck, and said Milroe needs to continue developing:

“People thought we couldn’t throw the ball, and he threw for over 300 yards last week, which we knew we were going to have to do against A&M because of their front. And he did a good job of that. So continuing his development in all these areas, I think, is really, really important, and he’s been great about it. He’s had a great attitude about it.”

Regular meeting Nick Saban

Nick Saban further made it known that he’s been having scheduled meetings with Jalen Mliroe every Thursday since the beginning of the season.

“I just had a meeting with him. I always meet with him at 11:30 on Thursday and go through the week with him and go through the plan with him,” Saban said. “He’s well-prepared and very sort of appreciative of how he’s developing the leadership with the other guys on the team. So all these things are real positives.”

While Jalen Milroe might not be at the level of Bryce Young, his development through the course of this season has been evident. But can he lead Alabama back to the College Football Playoffs?
