The Colorado Buffaloes' magic seemingly faded after a disappointing start against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, despite star players like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders in the lineup. In the first half, the Buffaloes' defense gave up 28 points while the offense struggled to reach the endzone.
At one point, Travis Hunter, visibly frustrated, was seen taking off his helmet and yelling as he walked past Coach Prime on the sidelines. This occurred right before the second half ended after a pass sailed way above his reach. Following his outburst, the Buffs' defensive coordinator, Robert Livingston, had to pull Hunter aside to calm him.
While Hunter’s frustration with his team's offensive plays was understandable, some football fans criticized him for his strong reaction.
"Crying like a b*tch all game lmao."
Another football enthusiast highlighted that it wasn’t even Travis Hunter’s play:
"This is why I’m not big on any of the Colorado guys. Me Me Me - he wasn’t even open on the play."
Here are some other reactions from fans:
"When play against North Dakota vs when you play D1 talent. Not so easy," one fan said.
"Did buddy think they'd actually compete?" another fan added
"Most selfish team in the country. Selfish teams don’t win," someone else commented
"Throwing a b*tch fit," a football fan wrote
"Lmao! Crybaby!" another X user mentioned
"That’s what happens when you play against the big boys. Not little league," one more fan stated
Buffaloes' Second-Half Spark Not Enough to Overcome Cornhuskers
The Colorado Buffaloes had a much better second half, where their defense showed potential and kept Nebraska out of the endzone. The Buffs got their first points in the third quarter after Alejandro Mata scored a 27-yard field goal.
Further, the team's first touchdown came in the fourth quarter after Shedeur Sanders threw a five-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester. But, the damage was done in the first half and it was enough for Nebraska's comfortable 28-10 win.
Sanders suffered hits throughout the game and was sacked five times. He completed 23 of 38 passes while throwing for 244 yards and scoring one touchdown and one interception. On the other hand, the star wide receiver Travis Hunter totaled 10 receptions in 110 yards.
The Buffaloes matchup against the Cornhuskers felt like a flashback of the 2023 season, where they won their first three games but ended with a 4-8 record. However, there is still hope they will make a strong comeback as they play their third game against the Colorado State Rams next week.
