Curt Cignetti was named the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers Football Team in 2024. He spent the last five seasons coaching the James Madison Duke football team from 2019 to 2023. Cignetti hails from Pittsburgh, where he was established as a quarterback prospect from Pennsylvania. He attended West Virginia University in 1979 and graduated in 1982. His coaching career began as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh. Throughout his career, he had the opportunity to gain coaching experience at Davidson, Rice, Temple, NC State, and Alabama where he held different coaching positions. He was renowned for his player recruitment and conditioning which gave him huge success in the conference. Before committing to the Indiana Hoosiers, he won numerous division championships for the programs he had previously coached.
Curt Cignetti has acquired various accomplishments throughout his coaching career. During his time at James Madison, he helped the Dukes win three straight CAA championships. Under his guidance, James Madison won two Sun Belt East Division titles in 2022 and 2023. At IUP, he guided the IUP Crimson Hawks football team to a PSAC championship in 2012 and two PSAC West Division titles in 2012 and 2015. Cignetti’s coaching accolades include winning the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2023 and he won the PSAC Coach of the Year in 2021. Before being named head coach at IUP Crimson Hawks, Cignetti has immensely improved the Alabama Crimson Tide, as he served as the wide receivers coach and the head recruiting coordinator. Cignetti helped Alabama win a national championship during the 2009 season and had the vision to recruit prime players such as Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, Jr., and Julio Jones who marked his NFL journey with ease.
