Dante Dowdell is a running back who recently transferred to Nebraska Cornhuskers for the 2024 season. Dowdell started playing high school football at Picayune Memorial High School where he was rated a four-star recruit by all sports outlets. He was a four-year letter winner at Picayune and led the program to back-to-back MHSAA 5A state championships. Dowdell was listed as the top 10 running back in the 2023 recruiting class and was honored with the MaxPreps Mississippi Player of the Year in his junior year. He concluded his prep career, rushing for 5,301 yards and 65 touchdowns.

Coming out of Picayune as the top-ranked running back in Mississippi, Dowdell had 28 scholarship offers but he chose the Oregon Ducks for his collegiate football journey. He held offers from Arkansas State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Minnesota, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State, and Texas A&M. In his freshman season with the Oregon Ducks, Dowdell appeared in six games, rushing for 90 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown. But after just one year with the Ducks, Dowdell decided to transfer to Nebraska Cornhuskers with four years of eligibility remaining. He expects to step into a bigger role along the offensive line in his sophomore campaign in the 2024 season.
