After spending one season with the Iowa Hawkeyes, quarterback Deacon Hill will hit the NCAA transfer portal again. The sophomore struggled in his first year on the field, going 122-for-251 (48.6%) for 1,152 yards with five passing touchdowns to eight interceptions. His putrid 18.5 QBR shows a massive struggle, but where will Hill land next season?
5 teams that could land Deacon Hill from the transfer portal
#1: UCLA Bruins
The UCLA Bruins were interested in Deacon Hill coming out of high school. Further, coach DeShaun Foster is taking over while trying to be a force in the Big Ten next season.
The team has a young QB room but saw Dante Moore and Collin Schlee leave in the transfer portal after last season. There are openings, and Hill could compete for the starting spot. Plus, playing in Los Angeles definitely will help his brand going forward.
#2: Nevada Wolf Pack
Another program interested in Deacon Hill coming out of high school was the Nevada Wolf Pack. The team has just six passing touchdowns, and Hill should at least compete for the starting job with Brendon Lewis and AJ Bianco. Going to a Group of Five program could help him compete against competition more adequate for his skill.
#3: Wake Forest Demon Deacons
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons did not have a great QB situation in 2024 as they had 14 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. While Deacon Hill could be a great player in a lesser conference, he could compete for the starting spot with Mitch Griffis for the Week 1 starting job.
#4: USC Trojans
Lincoln Riley should figure out the QB situation as he no longer has Caleb Williams under center. Miller Moss had an unbelievable Holiday Bowl performance. But elevating from a backup to a starting QB in college football is tough. Having Hill there to compete with Moss would be interesting.
#5: UNC Tar Heels
After seeing Drake Maye enter the 2024 NFL draft, not many viable options remain in Chapel Hill. Hill is an experienced QB pushed into the starter spot due to injury. This would be an interesting spot with legendary coach Mack Brown calling the shots.
