North Carolina Tar Heels cornerback DeAndre Boykins has entered the transfer portal and will be highly sought after. The former four-star prospect has recorded 78 tackles, two sacks and one interception in his career.
On3's Pete Nakos tweeted the news on Monday. Here's a look at Boykins' top 3 landing spots.
DeAndre Boykins Transfer Portal: Top 3 landing spots
#1, Mississippi State
DeAndre Boykins leaving UNC is a surprise as he is from North Carolina and had the chance to play under Bill Belichick.
However, he is likely looking for a team where he'll be a starter, and going to Mississippi State makes a lot of sense. Boykins could make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs who were the worst team in the SEC in 2024.
Mississippi State needs to overhaul its entire defense and adding Boykins to lock down one side of the field would be an ideal starting point.
#2, South Carolina
If Boykins wants to stay close to home, going to South Carolina would be a good option for him.
The Gamecocks are expected to be a legitimate playoff contender in 2025 so Boykins would have a chance to compete for a national championship. South Carolina ended the year well and has a solid quarterback in LaNorris Sellers, who will likely help recruit some players.
Boykins could replace O'Donnell Fortune as he is expected to be a late-round NFL draft pick or priority free agent signing.
#3, Florida Gators
The Florida Gators would also be a logical landing spot for Boykins.
Florida, like South Carolina, has a promising future given the play of freshman QB DJ Lagway in 2024. With Lagway having another year to develop, the Gators should be a legitimate contender in the SEC.
Boykins would also be an immediate starter as he would replace Trikweze Bridges who will be off to the NFL.
