The Wisconsin Badgers have put up a 2-1 record this season under coach Luke Fickell. Their first loss of 2024 came in Week 3 at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Last season, they managed to put up a 7-6 overall, including a ReliaQuest Bowl loss at the hands of LSU.

Let us take a look at when Wisconsin returns to the gridiron for its next game of the season.

Do the Badgers play today?

No, the Wisconsin Badgers won't play in Week 4 of the 2024 college football season. They have an open week, which allows them to recuperate and strategize their game plan following their 42-10 loss to the Crimson Tide.

After the open week, Luke Fickell and his team are scheduled to face the USC Trojans in Week 5. The No. 11-ranked Trojans are going to take on the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines in Week 4, following which they will play against the Badgers at home.

So far in their debut Big Ten season, the Trojans managed to put up a two-game winning streak heading into Week 4. Their last victory was a 48-0 domination against Utah State.

Thus, this open week will allow the Badgers to reassess their quarterback situation after starting QB Tyle Van Dyke suffered a serious injury against Alabama. As per ESPN's Pete Thamel, Van Dyke has a torn ACL and will possibly be sidelined for the rest of the season since he has to undergo surgery.

This gives backup QB Braedyn Locke some time to build cohesion with Wisconsin's offense before taking over Van Dyke's position ahead of their game against USC. He redshirted his freshman season with Mississippi State before transferring to Wisconsin last season.

Wisconsin's college football schedule for the 2024 season

Here's the Wisconsin Badgers' entire football schedule for the 2024 season:

  • Aug. 30 vs. Western Michigan (W)
  • Sept. 7 vs. South Dakota (W)
  • Sept. 14 vs. Alabama (L)
  • Sept. 28 vs. USC
  • Oct. 5 vs. Purdue
  • Oct. 12 vs. Rutgers
  • Oct. 19 vs. Northwestern
  • Oct. 26 vs. Penn State
  • Nov. 2 vs. Iowa
  • Nov. 16 vs. Oregon
  • Nov. 23 vs. Nebraska
  • Nov. 29 vs. Minnesota

The next few games for Wisconsin will be crucial for it to create a chance to at least qualify for the bowl games this season. It will be interesting to see how the program manages without Tyler Van Dyke leading the offense on the gridiron. Will Braedyn Locke be able to live up to the expectations set for the program?
