Week 10 of the college football season is underway, but luckily for the Kansas Jayhawks (2-6), they do not need to play, as they are on an open week.
Does Kansas play today?
No, the Jayhawks do not play today, nor do they play at all in Week 10. They are coming off a 29-27 loss to No. 17 Kansas State. The Jayhawks are back in action next week when they host the No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones.
Kansas chances to make the College Football Playoff this season
A trip to the playoffs is no longer a possibility for 'the Jayhawks. In the new 12-team playoff format, the five highest-ranked conference champions automatically get a playoff berth. The four highest-ranked teams in that group earn a bye in the first round.
Kansas has a 1-4 conference record and will unlikely catch the conference-leading No. 9 BYU with its 5-0 conference record. The other way to make the playoffs is as one of the final seven selections. Those slots go to the next seven highest-ranked teams as determined by the CFP selection committee.
While the Jayhawks have games against three ranked opponents left on their schedule (No. 11 Iowa State, No. 9 BYU and No. 23 Colorado), even wins over all three would not be enough to get them a playoff spot.
Although defeating three ranked opponents would be impressive, voters would be more likely to condemn the Jayhawks' opponents for losing rather than give them credit for winning.
