The No. 8-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-1) will not be playing in Week 10. Every team in college football gets a few open weeks, and this is one for the Fighting Irish. Rather than playing, they will get the opportunity to rest and recover before they head into the final stretch of their season.

The next matchup for the Fighting Irish comes in a week when they host the Florida State Seminoles on November 9, and they have four games left to play in the regular season.

Can Notre Dame make it to the college football playoff this season?

Yes, Notre Dame can make the 2024 college football playoffs, but it is in a unique situation because it is not in a traditional conference. The Fighting Irish are an FBS Independent team this season, and as a result, they do not have a conference championship to play for. As a result, they do not have the opportunity to make the playoffs as a conference champion.

In the new 12-team playoff format, the five highest-ranked conference champions automatically make the playoffs, with the four highest-ranked of those teams earning a bye through the first round. So, the Fighting Irish cannot earn a playoff berth in one of those five spots.
