Week 10 of the college football season is underway and one of the most popular teams in the country, the No. 6-ranked Texas Longhorns (7-1), will not be playing. They are on their second and final open week of the season. Every team in college football gets a few open weeks to rest and recover from injuries, and this is one for the Longhorns.

No, the Longhorns will not play today or at all in Week 10. Instead, the team will rest after getting a bounce-back 27-24 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. They had previously lost their first game of the season 30-15 to No. 2-ranked Georgia. They are in action again next week against the Florida Gators.
Can Texas make it to the college football playoff this season?
Yes, the Longhorns can possibly make the college football playoffs. Before their loss to No. 2-ranked Georgia, they were the highest-ranked team in the nation. They are still ranked No. 6, and it would take a catastrophic failure at the end of the season for the Longhorns to fall out of the playoff picture.

In the new 12-team playoff format, the five highest-ranked conference champions automatically make the playoffs, with the four highest-ranked of those teams earning a bye through the first round. The next seven highest-ranked teams, as determined by the CFP selection committee also earn playoff berths.
After Texas' loss to Georgia, they are no longer favored to win the ultra-competitive SEC. However, their final game of the season is against the conference-leading No. 10-ranked Aggies. A win there would help them clinch the SEC on a tiebreaker.
If that does not happen, there is still a good chance the Longhorns make the playoffs as one of the next seven selected teams. To fall out of the playoff picture, they would likely need to lose to the Aggies and one of the three other unranked teams they play (Florida, Arkansas, and Kentucky).
