The Washington Huskies have had an up-and-down season. They have only had two straight wins once, and have also only had two straight losses once. As a result, the Huskies (6-5) have a nearly even record and have mostly alternated wins and losses all year.

They will have a break in Week 13 as their second open week of the year. Washington will not play on Saturday or all this weekend because of their second mandated open week.

Does Washington play today?

No, the Huskies do not play on Saturday or at all in Week 13. They are on their second mandated open week of the season. All college football teams are provided with at least two open weeks throughout the season. Some teams get three weeks because of quirks in the schedule, but all teams get at least two.

Their first open week came in Week 8 after a 40-16 loss to Iowa. It did not help as the Huskies lost back-to-back games for the only time this season, returning from the open week with a 31-17 loss to No. 5-ranked Indiana.

This time, the Huskies' open week is coming after a 31-19 win over UCLA last Friday.

Can Washington make it to the college football playoff this season?

No, it is no longer possible for the Huskies to make the college football playoffs. In the new 12-team playoff format, the five highest-ranked conference champions automatically make the playoffs. The four highest-ranked of those teams earn a bye through the first round.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, they cannot make it to the Big 10 Championship Game. They sit four games behind second place in the conference with only one game remaining.

The other seven spots go to the next seven highest-ranked teams as determined by the CFP selection committee, regardless of their placement in their conferences. Washington will not earn a playoff berth in that category either. They are not ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll.

Although a win over No. 1-ranked Oregon in the final game of the season would likely earn it a spot in the rankings, it would not be high enough to earn it a playoff berth. So, the Huskies cannot make the playoffs.
