Donovan Green is one of Mike Elko's most essential players on the offensive side of the ball. The Texas A&M coach discussed Elko's ACL injury and said this about his star tight end:
"It's going to take time for him. Coming back from an ACL is not easy. He's still working his way back to being able to plant, cut, and move the way he wants to. I have a lot of confidence in him."
What happened to Donovan Green?
As per CBS Sports, Donovan Green suffered a torn ACL in the team scrimmage ahead of the 2023 college football season. The then-sophomore tight end was viewed as the Aggies' starting tight end for the 2023 season before his unfortunate injury.
Speaking on his injury, then Texas A&M Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher said,
"Understand that it can be rather disheartening, but he is a young guy who can return from that. A huge number of guys have done it, and you have to keep that in your head."
Green's injury was unfortunate as he looked set to enjoy a breakthrough sophomore season. He had amassed a stat line of 223 receiving yards and two TDs in his freshman season, appearing in ten games. His performances as a rookie earned him the Aggie Offense Top Newcomer Award and 2022 College Football News Freshman All-America Honorable Mention.
What can you expect from Mike Elko and Texas A&M in 2024?
The return of Donovan Green would be a significant plus for the Texas A&M Aggies in 2024. The program will hope that he and Noah Thomas will play to their potential in the upcoming season.
The Aggies had a 7-5 regular season record in 2023. The program suffered losses to four ranked teams in the past season: the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, and LSU Tigers. Their only loss against an unranked team came against Miami.
We expect Mike Elko and the roster to put up a decent showing in 2024 and battle for a Bowl game slot. The team has the makings of a contender, but it will need elite coaching to unlock its potential and better luck with injuries.
