The Notre Dame Fighting Irish captured a dramatic 27-24 Orange Bowl victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions, marking a signature win in Marcus Freeman's coaching tenure. The Irish erased an early 10-0 deficit in a game that featured three ties and three lead changes.
Christian Gray's late interception set up Mitch Jeter's game-winning 41-yard field goal with seven seconds left, sealing the victory. Quarterback Riley Leonard connected with Jadon Greathouse earlier for a pivotal 54-yard touchdown during the comeback.
The win represents a milestone for Freeman, who has helped restore Notre Dame's prominence in major bowl games. Social media lit up with celebrations, including comments about Penn State quarterback Drew Allar's performance in the CFP semifinal.
“Drew Allar all time fraud game," one fan said.

“Thank you for beating Penn State (on behalf of Maryland),” another fan said.
“Mitch Jeter saved my life,” one fan added.
The victory sends Notre Dame to the national championship game on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
Marcus Freeman became first Black HC to lead a team to CFB's biggest stage
Marcus Freeman made history as Notre Dame reached the national championship, becoming the first Black head coach to lead a team to college football's biggest stage.
"I've said this before: I don't ever want to take attention away from the team," Freeman said via CBSSports.com during the trophy ceremony after the Orange Bowl. "It is an honor, and I hope all coaches – minorities, Black, Asian, white, it doesn't matter, great people – continue to get opportunities to lead young men like this.
“But this ain't about me. This is about us. We're going to celebrate what we've done because it's so special," he added.
The No. 7 Fighting Irish (14-1) advance to Atlanta on Jan. 20, seeking their 12th national title, and first since 1988.
