It was established by Raycom Sports, now a part of Gray Television, this college football bowl game was officially certified by the NCAA. Over the years, it underwent various name changes from the Continental Tire Bowl to the Meineke Car Care Bowl and eventually the Belk Bowl until it adopted its current name.
Since its inauguration, the Duke's Mayo Bowl has been a yearly spectacle held at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
