Golden Bears QB Fernando Mendoza joined the list of starting quarterbacks to enter the transfer portal. Mendoza will be highly sought after, as he played well at Cal last season. This past year, Mendoza threw for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Wherever he goes, he is guaranteed to be an immediate starter.
Probable landing spots
#1 Mississippi State
The Mississippi State Bulldogs will be after most of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal. They are linked to former Oklahoma Sooners QB Jackson Arnold, but if they don't land him, Fernando Mendoza would be a great backup plan.
Mendoza has proven he can be a quality starting quarterback in college football. He would be an impact starter for the Bulldogs, who desperately need to overhaul their offense.
Playing in the SEC would be a big test for Mendoza, as he would have to prove to scouts that he is an NFL-worthy quarterback.
#2 Indiana
The Indiana Hoosiers will be back in the transfer portal searching for a quarterback after landing Kurtis Rourke in the portal last year.
After Curt Cignetti led Indiana to the college football playoff, the Hoosiers will be an attractive spot for players in the portal this year. Cignetti has proven he's a winner, and Mendoza can look to emulate Rourke's performance.
If Mendoza can help the Hoosiers remain a playoff team, he would tremendously boost his NFL draft stock.
#3 Wisconsin Badgers
The Wisconsin Badgers are coming off a disappointing season in which they failed to be bowl-eligible. Wisconsin needs a quarterback, and Mendoza makes a lot of sense. The young star could be the Badgers' starting QB for multiple years and can give Luke Fickell someone to build around.
