Fans were thrilled to see Nick Saban in his new avatar as an analyst during the 2024 SEC Media Day 1. The former Alabama head coach is adjusting to his retirement life, as he shared a hilarious story of being denied entry at the event for not having proper credentials.
With Saban retired, Kalen DeBoer will be taking his legacy forward, being named the next Alabama head coach. During the 2024 SEC Media Day 1, the former Alabama coach showered praise on DeBoer for handling the program well so far.
"Kalen has done a really good job in the transition. But I think the most important thing for him is how do we get started? Do we play with consistency early? You've got players buying into a new offense, players buying into a new defense.
"So for them to have a little success early would go a long way to solidify that buy-in so that they can play with confidence and be successful in the future." (1:50)
Saban announced his retirement on 11 January 2024 after spending 17 long years at Alabama.
Difference between Kalen DeBoer and Nick Saban's style of coaching
Ever since Kalen DeBoer's takeover at Alabama, there has been a comparison between the difference in attendance, relationships with players and processes during his tenure at Alabama and Nick Saban's.
Saban was known for his old-school approach and passion for the game, whether it be spanking redshirt freshman AJ McCarron or lashing out at media reporters during postgame conferences.
On the other hand, Kalen DeBoer has been making efforts to get to know the players in a different manner than Nick Saban, like joining Snapchat to stay close to them.
Talking about another difference between the two coaches, Alabama QB Jalen Milroe mentioned an incident during practice that made him realize how different things were. After a touchdown, Milroe was waiting for the next play while DeBoer was waiting for him to celebrate.
It will be interesting to see how Alabama performs in its first season without Coach Saban.
