Texas defeated defending national champion Michigan 31-12 on Saturday in a highly anticipated top-10 encounter. The Longhorns were touted to be a contender for the national championship before the season started and they lived up to the billing in Ann Arbor against the Wolverines.

The dominance of Texas in the Week 2 game was enjoyed by fans and alumni of the program. During the game, many of them were reacting to how the Longhorns controlled the proceedings on both sides of the ball, giving Michigan a hard time on their home field.

Former Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson believes that with this performance, the team has demonstrated why they’re a force to be reckoned with in 2024. Robinson's confidence in his alma mater reflects the growing belief that Texas is a serious contender this season.

“We’re witnessing a team that is the future of college football,” Robinson posted on X. “Them (M emoji) boys done ran outta gas before it started (laughing emoji, shrug emoji).”

Texas dominance was tough to watch for Tom Brady

Michigan alum Tom Brady was on hand to watch the Wolverines' first half against the Longhorns and the scene was far from ideal. The legendary NFL quarterback joined the FOX broadcast at halftime, discussing the first half with Joel Klatt.

However, it was clear that Brady would have preferred to celebrate a Wolverines lead rather than witness his alma mater trail the Longhorns. The disappointment was palpable, as the Wolverines struggled in front of one of their most iconic alumni. Brady gave Joel Klatt his thoughts:

“Tell me about it, Joel, it’s been tough to watch this first half,” Brady said. “I was hoping I’d come on here and be talking about the opposite score there. But Texas is off to a great start. (The) quarterback is playing well, so Michigan’s got a lot to cover here in the second half.”

A big season ahead for Texas after the Michigan game

Following the emphatic victory in Ann Arbor, the Longhorns are anticipated to achieve something big this season. Despite only the first season in the SEC, they will be expected to challenge for the conference championship.

A return to the College Football Playoff is now the most-expected achievement of Steve Sarkisian’s team this season. The Longhorns lost to Washington in the semifinals of the playoffs last season and are once again expected to challenge for the title in the expanded playoff format.
