In April, Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders' ex-wife, Pilar Sanders, came out in strong support of their daughter Shelomi Sanders, who left Colorado to join the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. This stance put her in direct conflict with Coach Prime, who was not enamored with his daughter's decision to enter the transfer portal.
The disagreement between the couple brought back memories of their divorce in 2013. In a 2022 episode of "Second Shot," Pilar discussed the toxic environment among players' wives she experienced while married to Sanders.
"The jealousy amongst players' wives, the jealousy among the players against players, families against families, it is unbelievable, and no one ever talks about it," Pilar said. "There's not a sisterhood there. You would think that there would be, but I will say this: I probably found more of a sisterhood in the baseball wife community than I did in the football wife community.

"The season is longer, you travel more. But the guys are different, the attitudes, the characteristics. The energy is just different. I really enjoyed baseball."
Pilar Sanders detailed how she balanced marriage with Coach Prime
In the same episode, Pilar Sanders said that she found common ground with Coach Prime when it came to raising their three children.
"I was 100% all in. I would stay home with the children, we agreed with that, and I'll raise them," she said. ... "I love mothering and my children are so much fun, they're not children anymore but I love hanging out with them, I always did.
"We always did awesome, fun things and I didn't have a problem with that at all. I wasn't in a marriage where I competed with him and his career so we didn't have those issues. It happens a lot."
Pilar and Deion Sanders got divorced in 2013. Their divorce was bitter and played out in the public gallery as the couple battled out in court.
Sanders got full custody of their three children while Pilar got visitation rights, which she violated once, even refusing to return the children to their father while claiming that he kicked and punched one of their sons.
Coach Prime sued his ex-wife for defamation and won a $1 million settlement, although Pilar Sanders was jailed for seven days for contempt of court due to her conduct during the trial.
