An FSU fan jokingly took matters into his own hands—or rather, his mouth—claiming he'd eat "dog poop" if the Florida State Seminoles lost to Duke. The promise came after another fan made a similar vow ahead of their Week 1 loss to Georgia Tech but mysteriously disappeared from social media after FSU's defeat.
Despite the bold claim, FSU fell 23-16 to Duke, and once again, the fan didn’t follow through on his bet. On Tuesday, however, another fan kept his word. A video posted by @ChaseBork showed him following through on his bizarre promise, with Barstool FSU thanking him for his “sacrifice.”
However, some fans believe the so-called “dog poop curse” is real, fearing the team is doomed for good. One fan tweeted:
“I’m done. Somebody find 321Nole before it gets worse. The “dog shit curse” is for real.”
“Curse cannot be broken. Nole321 was supposed to do it and there was a time limit. This will only help you with Miami,” a fan said.
“That dog sh*t won’t save them from this 50 ball on Saturday,” another fan said.
“FSU “ShitNoles” from now until the end of time,” one fan said.
“Too bad it ain’t breaking no curse til the dude who posted it does it,” another fan said.
“Curse isn't broken. The guy who made the original bet has to eat the sh*t," one fan said.
Florida State, now sitting at a rough 1-6, heads into a major showdown against undefeated Miami. The Hurricanes are heavy favorites, but the burning question remains: is this curse unbreakable?
FSU vs. Miami Hurricanes face off
Florida State and Miami will face off for the 69th time in their storied rivalry this Saturday night at Hard Rock Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 PM Eastern. Miami leads the series 35-33, but Florida State has been gaining ground, winning the last three matchups and taking 10 of the last 14. The Seminoles also hold a 21-19 edge when playing in Miami.
Florida State (1-6) practiced Monday morning, preparing for the undefeated No. 5 Hurricanes (7-0). Despite a tough 23-16 loss to Duke, head coach Mike Norvell felt good about the team’s energy:
"Pleased with the work today," Norvell said [H/t Tallahassee Democrat]. "Obviously we know it's a big week, big opportunity for us. I thought they came out very competitive, it was fast and guys continued to push themselves."
Norvell also shared some positive news—linebacker Blake Nichelson is expected to return after missing the Duke game.
FSU’s highlight this season was a narrow 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech in the season opener in Dublin, but they've struggled with quarterback consistency throughout 2024.
The stage is set for another intense chapter in this rivalry, with Florida State aiming for an upset.
