The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs were able to dominate in Week 8 on the road against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and are currently one of the top programs in the nation. The 30-15 road win encapsulated what the Bulldogs are able to do: win games, score points and completely overwhelm the opposition with a stifling defense.
But what does this victory in Week 8 mean for the Georgia playoff picture?
Here's a closer look at what this means going forward for the program.
Georgia's playoff picture after Week 8
To prognosticate how the season is going to go for the Georgia Bulldogs, fans need to understand what they have to face for the remainder of the regular season. Here is the remainder of their regular season schedule with the AP Poll rankings coming into the week of action:
- 11/2: vs. Florida Gators
- 11/9: at No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels
- 11/16: vs. No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers
- 11/23: vs. UMass Minutemen
- 11/29: vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Bulldogs have been able to bounce back and secure a massive win in Week 8. It is difficult to understand how impressive the victory over the Texas Longhorns was with quarterback Carson Beck throwing for three interceptions and without any touchdowns.
However, what this win means in the bigger picture is now Georgia should run the table in its next five regular season games. If it does so, it will still need some help to be part of the SEC Championship as it is behind the LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, those two teams play against one another in Week 9.
So the Georgia playoff picture is now set. All they need to do is go 5-0 to ensure they are in the SEC Championship Game this season. Right now, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Bulldogs listed as the favorites (+360) to win the national championship, meaning they should walk into the College Football Playoff.
Of course, it is a new format with the 12-team bracket. Securing a bye in the opening round is critical and they need to keep their foot on the pedal and not lose for the remainder of the regular season to do just that.
