The Alabama Crimson Tide has a new kicker, as Graham Nicholson has committed to the program.
Nicholson won the Lou Groza Award, which is awarded to the best kicker in college last season while he was at the Miami (OH). Nicholson took to social media on Sunday to announce that he's transferring to Alabama.
"I want to thank Miami University and everyone involved for believing in me out of high school and welcoming me into a family. I want to thank Coach Martin for the trust he has placed in me and for being an unbelievable leader and mentor over the past 3 years.
"I have decided to transfer for my last season and will be finishing my college career at the University of Alabama. I am extremely thankful for this opportunity and excited to help compete and win a national title. Roll tide!"
Graham Nicholson's college stats
Graham Nicholson played three years at Miami (OH) and was the starter since he was a freshman.
Last season, Nicholson went 27-for-28 on field goals while going 35-for-37 on extra points, to win the Lou Groza Award. Nicholson went 1-for-1 on field goals over 50+ yards last season, while his lone miss came from the 40-49-yard range, as Nicholson went 9-for-10 on those kicks.
Nicholson will be the Crimson Tide's starting kicker after Alabama lost Will Reichard to graduation after the 2023 season. Reichard was the Crimson Tide's all-time scoring leader, so Nicholson will have big shoes to fill as Alabama's starting kicker.
Graham Nicholson was the first player from the Mid-American Conference to win the award and has one year left of college eligibility. Before Nicholson announced his decision to go to Alabama, the Crimson Tide was having an open competition between Conor Talty, Reid Schuback, and Upton Bellanfant.
Alabama Crimson Tide 2024 season
The Alabama Crimson Tide will open their 2024 season at home on Aug. 31 against Western Kentucky. The Crimson Tide's first road game will be their third game of the season against Wisconsin before hosting Georgia the following week.
Alabama has notable games against South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn this season. This will be the first season since 2006 that Nick Saban won't be the head coach of the Crimson Tide.
Saban announced his retirement following the loss to Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and Alabama went out and hired Kalen DeBoer to be their new coach.
