Charleston White has been an ardent critic of Deion Sanders since he left Jackson State for Colorado in December 2022. While Coach Prime's exit from the Tigers was seen as an opportunity for a new challenge, White considered it a huge betrayal to the school.

Following Colorado's double-overtime win over Colorado State in the 2023 Rocky Mountain Showdown in September of that year, Charleston made an open offer against Shedeur Sanders.

“Put $20,000 up on any college player that will hurt his (Deion Sanders) son,” White said.

Shedeur’s mother Pilar Sanders blasted Charleston White for the inflammatory gesture.

“So this grown a** little guy wants to put a hit out on my son,” Pilar said in a social media video. “Charleston White, let it be known, you're putting a hit out on my son?”

Charleston White's criticism of Deion Sanders

A year after Deion Sanders left Jackson State for Colorado, Charleston White didn't hold back in his criticism of the Pro Football Hall of Famer. In his appearance on “Funky Friday” in December 2023 with former quarterback Cam Newton, he once again took the chance to hit out at the Colorado coach.

“I can say f*ck Deion ’cause Deion coasted my city before with Prime. I know the East Side Falcons used to play. So, I know about Deion (…) That ain’t respect-worthy. And I ain’t really saying f*ck Deion. (1:06:50)
“I’m telling black people to say, ‘Fu** Dion,’ because what happened (…) we took our love and our support to Colorado and we forgot about all these HBCUs that are winning or losing."

White was displeased with Sanders’ departure from Jackson State despite his spoken commitment. During his time at Jackson State, Sanders made a commitment to elevating the athletics of HBCUs to the same status as Power Five schools through his work. However, after three seasons of noteworthy success, he departed for the Football Bowl Subdivision.
