How did the Colorado Buffaloes perform against the BYU Cougars?

The Colorado Buffaloes had an Alamo Bowl game to forget. No. 20 CU (9-4) was ruthlessly dispatched by highly motivated, 17th-ranked BYU (11-2) by a score of 36-14, with the score 20-0 at halftime.

The Cougars entered the game with a plan to stop Shedeur Sanders from operating in the pocket, and they did so with remarkable frequency. Sanders was limited to 208 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He ends his collegiate football career with a loss.

Travis Hunter fared better as he amassed a stat line of four catches, 106 receiving yards and one touchdown. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner recorded one last highlight reel-worthy play for the Buffaloes, scoring a 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter. He will now focus on prepping for the 2025 NFL draft.

What to expect from Colorado in 2025?

The Colorado Buffaloes will look significantly different in 2025 as their two best players head to the NFL. Shedeur Sanders is viewed as arguably the best quarterback in college football, while Travis Hunter is the best player in the nation. Both players are consensus top three picks.

The Buffaloes have proactively found replacements for Sanders, Hunter and other players set to depart for greener pastures. They've added Kaidon Salter from Liberty to compete with five-star freshman recruit Julian Lewis at quarterback. They're also set to welcome Zach Atkins, Gavriel Lightfoot, Jaheim Oatis, Makari Vickers and more via the transfer portal.

Fans can expect the Buffaloes to build on their achievements over the past two seasons. They'll likely have a more balanced team, and that could be crucial in Coach Prime's plan to make the team an undeniable collegiate powerhouse in the coming years.
