Week 9 of the college football season is in the books and the 2024 Heisman Trophy picture is shaping up nicely. Players are making their case to become a finalist and win the award by dominating in Week 9 games.
Let's take a look at the updated odds with only a handful of weeks left in the college football regular season. All odds in this article are provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.
Updated Heisman Trophy odds after Week 9
T-1: Dillon Gabriel, Oregon Ducks (+250)
Dillon Gabriel faced off against the 20th-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini and had an outstanding game, which bodes well for his Heisman Trophy odds. He finished 18-of-26 for 291 yards with three passing touchdowns to one interception while also running in an additional touchdown.
It's going to be difficult to take the Heisman Trophy away from Gabriel if he is the quarterback for the top-ranked team in the nation.
T-1: Cam Ward, Miami Hurricanes (+250)
Cam Ward had an okay game against a struggling Florida State Seminoles as he did not throw for a touchdown. However, he was 22-of-35 for 208 yards and was able to find his way into the end zone with a touchdown reception. This game was not great compared to others on this list but it is not enough to knock him down too much.
3: Travis Hunter, Colorado Buffaloes (+390)
Travis Hunter is coming off a monster game for the Colorado Buffaloes offensively as he recorded nine receptions for 153 yards (17.0 yards per catch) and a pair of touchdown receptions over the Cincinnati Bearcats. On the defensive side, he had a game-high four pass defenses.
The only issue is that he was nicked up a bit in the game as he suffered multiple minor ailments during the game. However, if he can stay healthy it will be tough to vote for someone else.
4: Ashton Jeanty, Boise State Broncos (+425)
When looking at pure numbers, it is difficult to find someone more impressive than Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. He did not disappoint in Week 9 against the UNLV Rebels as he had 33 carries for 128 yards (3.9 yards per attempt) and a rushing touchdown with three catches for 11 yards (3.7 yards per reception).
The big issue is that this is the first sign of Jeanty slowing down a bit as he has seen his yards per carry drop in each of his last three games.
5: Cade Klubnik, Clemson Tigers (+2000)
Clemson Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik is a distant fifth in the odds as the program was idle during its off week. However, it is difficult to ignore his numbers as he has completed 66.7% of his passes with a 20:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio in a tough Atlantic Coast Conference.
In addition, he has run for four touchdowns and is clicking after a brutal start. It is going to be difficult to see him climb up with the other contenders but Klubnik has a shot with a lesser schedule to end the regular season.
